Spring 2018 Featured Whole Home Renovation: An Open Concept Kitchen Living Room

whole home renovation spring feature

Prior to purchasing this bungalow which required a whole-home renovation, our homeowners were searching for a two storey house.  They were living in an apartment with all of the rooms on the same level, so wanted a home where the master suite would feel more private.

James and Karla shopped with the realtor and homeowners to find the perfect house that would allow a renovation to suit their needs and style.  Even though the two storey homes they looked at were in younger neighbourhoods than the one they eventually bought in (1980’s vs. 1960’s), those ‘newer’ two storey houses still required extensive renovations.  The two storey houses within our homeowners budget (for the house plus renovations) felt cramped and small, when what they wanted was a home that felt open and airy.  Through conversations with Karla, they realized that a bungalow could actually be modified to provide a beautiful open floor plan, while still keeping the master suite in an area where it felt secluded.

The City of Calgary Building Permit for this whole-home renovation covered all structural changes, including moving locations of all bedrooms, the bathroom (and addition of a second bathroom), stairwell location and direction, exterior door(s) and additions and changes to all new, triple pane windows. These structural changes allowed for an elegant open concept plan, and it is now a home that our homeowners are proud to live in and that perfectly suites their needs and beautiful sense of style.
